Experienced Cycling Coach for Riders Over 40
Online and In-Person: Train Smarter, Not Harder.

Cycling after 40 doesn’t mean slowing down
But it does mean training differently. Njinga specialises in cycling coaching for riders over 40, helping you:
- Build sustainable fitness
- Improve power and endurance
- Recover better
- Stay consistent year-round,
without burnout, injury, or all-or-nothing thinking.
Why training changes after 40
As we age, adaptation still happens but the levers change.
Common challenges include:
- Slower recovery between hard efforts
- Less tolerance for “junk miles” and unstructured volume
- Metabolic and hormonal changes in how your body responds
- Work, family, and sleep stress accumulating alongside training
- Confidence taking a hit when training feels inconsistent
The solution isn’t less ambition. It’s better strategy.
That's why we see great results with busy business executives in their 40s-60s, new cyclists looking to avoid mistakes and riders preparing for sportives, gran fondos, or charity rides.

What makes Njinga's online cycling coaching different?
This isn't a generic plan or an AI-generated programme.
Our coaching is built around our unique Njinga 360' Performance Code - a holistic, data-led approach refined over more than 13 years of coaching cyclists online and in person.
You don't train harder. You train smarter.
You’ll train across three equally important pillars:
Structured, progressive, time-efficient training, for better pacing, fewer blow-ups, more energy
Fuel and recovery support that drives adaptation for faster recovery, less aches and increased energy
Mindset and confidence tools, removing guesswork, doubt, and mental fatigue

Our approach to coaching cyclists over 40
We coach with age-appropriate intelligence, not outdated volume models.
Our proprietary coaching system, The Njinga 360' Performance Code prioritises:
- Quality over quantity
- Structured intensity (not random hard rides)
- Recovery as a performance driver
- Strength, mobility, and resilience
- Confidence and enjoyment, not just numbers
This is why many riders see their best gains in their 40s, 50s and beyond.

Frequently asked questions
Am I too old to improve my cycling?
Absolutely not. Many riders improve faster once training becomes smarter. We have worked with riders who have obtained PBs well into their 60s.
Is this suitable if I’m returning after time off?
Yes, we often work with riders getting back on track after time off, whether that break came from injury, life getting busy, or motivation dipping for a while.
Do you work with retirees?
Yes, this is the perfect time to take on those cycling challenges you have always dreamt about. We have helped many couples and individuals successfully complete their bucket list rides and cycling adventures around the world.
Do I need to train 10+ hours a week?
No. Many of our riders see great results with as little as 2-3 hours a week of well-structured training. Of course, if you have more time you will just see the benefits faster.
