TOP TIPS TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF POST-EVENT

We'll explore setting new fitness goals and ways to maintain cycling momentum, protecting the progress you've worked hard to achieve.

So You've Completed Your Big Cycling Event, What's Next?

Congratulations, you've crossed the finish line of your big cycling event, whether it's RideLondon, the Etape, another challenging ride, or even completed one of our Njinga training programmes.

Completing an event like that is no small feat, and you should be proud of your hard work and dedication. Rest, recovery and celebration are really important.

But now that the event is over, you might be wondering, "What's next?" In this blog, we'll explore the importance of setting new goals to maintain your fitness and keep the cycling momentum going.

Get a PB on a Local Hill or Loop

One exciting goal to set after your big cycling event is to aim for a personal best (PB) on a local hill or loop. Choose a challenging climb or a favourite route and strive to beat your previous time.

By focusing on specific segments, you can track your progress and witness tangible improvements in your performance. Remember, small victories like this can keep your motivation high and give you a sense of accomplishment.

Go on a Cycling Break Abroad

If it's a new cycling adventure you want, consider planning a cycling break abroad for the end of summer. Explore new routes, breathtaking landscapes, and immerse yourself in different cycling cultures.

Whether it's tackling the stunning mountain passes of the French Alps, pedalling along the scenic coastal roads of Italy, or venturing into the captivating countryside of Spain, a cycling holiday can rejuvenate your passion for the sport while giving you the opportunity to discover new destinations.

And best of all you can even join us on a trip to the magnificent Greek island, Rhodes, for No. IV of our challenge series, the Colossus of Rhodes.

Take on a Core, Strength or Flexibility Challenge

To complement your cycling training and enhance overall fitness, why not take up an off-bike challenge?

Engaging in core strength or mobility exercises can help improve your cycling performance and reduce the risk of injuries, and a 30-day challenge is a great way to stay motivated and active after a big event.

Our 30-day core challenge takes no more than 15 minutes a day and is perfect to fit around family holidays or travel for work, where longer rides might not be an option.

Strengthening your body off the bike will have a positive impact on your cycling abilities and overall well-being.

Have Fun

Sometimes, the best goal you can set after completing a big cycling event is simply to have fun. Cycling is a source of joy and freedom, so why not explore different aspects of the sport that excite you?

Join group rides, try out different disciplines like mountain biking or gravel riding, or head off on a bike-packing trip.

Remember, maintaining your love for cycling is just as important as pursuing specific goals.

Why Are Goals Important?

Setting new goals after your big cycling event is vital for maintaining your fitness and keeping your cycling journey on track. Here are a few reasons why goal setting is crucial:

1. Sustained motivation: Having a new goal gives you a clear purpose and motivates you to continue training and pushing yourself.

2. Progress measurement: Goals allow you to measure your progress and track improvements in your cycling performance, be it in terms of speed, endurance, or technique. Something we do in all our programmes.

3. Variety and exploration: Setting new goals encourages you to explore different aspects of cycling, try new routes, and engage in cross-training activities to enhance your overall fitness.

4. Long-term commitment: By continuously setting new goals, you ensure that cycling remains a long-term commitment and a sustainable part of your lifestyle.

Completing a big cycling event is an incredible accomplishment, but it's equally important to set new goals to maintain your fitness and enthusiasm for the sport.

Whether you're aiming to beat a personal record, planning an exciting cycling adventure abroad, taking on an off-bike challenge, or simply having fun on two wheels, goal setting keeps your cycling journey engaging and fulfilling.

So, take a moment to reflect, set your sights on the next challenge, and Let's Go!
