The Power of Training Together: Paul’s 79 watt Transformation
After a year off the bike and slipping fitness, Paul reignited his passion with Njinga. He shed 20 lbs, boosted his power, and conquered the Maratona dles Dolomites - all without any climbs to train on at home.
- FTP +79 watts (161w → 240w)
- 9kg lighter (92kg → 83kg )
- 1.75 w/kg → 2.9w/kg
- Completed Maratona 138 km & 4230 m climbing
- Accelerate

Getting Back on the Bike
Paul had always been a keen rider, but after years of repeating the same local routes, motivation dipped and the bike ended up hanging in the garage for over a year.
“I missed it. My fitness slipped, the scales crept up, and I needed a big goal to spark the fire again.”
That big goal? The legendary Maratona dles Dolomites.
Finding Njinga
With no mountains to train on in Canada, Paul knew he needed structure and guidance and was recommended Njinga.
“I’d thought about using an AI coach, but I wanted something more personal. 1-1 coaching was out of my budget - Njinga felt like the perfect middle ground.”
After chatting with Togo and Leigh, it just clicked. Paul signed up and immediately loved the small, supportive team vibe and the way the programme kept pushing him forward without ever overwhelming him.
Training Challenges
Paul faced three big hurdles: finding enough time on the bike to fit training into his busy life, rebuilding his motivation after a year away from riding, and preparing for the mountains, despite not having any nearby to train on.
But once he committed, the progress came fast. His weight dropped by 9kg, his power numbers soared, and he rediscovered his love of cycling again.

And then came the events
- The Maratona dles Dolomites - conquered.
- Multiple Dolomite climbs ticked off.
- A PB 140 km ride at the Tour de Victoria.
- Preparing for the Whistler Forte 160 km.
“I’m riding 300–400 km a week, feeling amazing, and already dreaming about my next European challenge.”

The Njinga Experience
Paul describes the experience of Accelerate in one word: terrific. What made the difference?
- The structure
- The spreadsheet! "I’m a numbers guy, so tracking progress was tremendous."
- The motivation of regular feedback and encouragement.
- Feeling part of the Njinga family, supported every step of the way despite living thousands of miles away.
Paul is Hooked
“I can’t wait to sign up again. Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. I only wish I lived in the UK to join the group rides in person.”
Your bike might be hanging in the garage right now. Your fitness might have slipped. You might be dreaming of challenges that feel impossible from where you're sitting.
Paul's journey shows that the gap between where you are and where you want to be isn't as wide as it seems. Sometimes you just need the right programme, the right support, and the courage to begin.
He’s excited about the next big challenge for 2026 as has just signed up to Accelerate 2.0.
"Njinga Cycling is truly special. Leigh and Togo are both incredible – supportive, inspiring, and genuinely lovely people"
