about / meet the team

I want people to feel welcome and cared for.

Togo and I were living in New York City when a friend invited us to go cycling. I hadn’t been on a bicycle since I was a child growing up in South Africa, but I loved it! Weekend rides on a hired bicycle led to me buying my own bike and transforming my fitness.

When we returned to the UK, I chose to leave the corporate world behind and follow my passion for nutrition. As a cyclist, I knew how powerful the right fuel could be for performance. Today, I use that knowledge to create the meals that fuel our riders on every Njinga trip.

I’m also the one who keeps Njinga running smoothly, freeing Togo to focus on helping our Njinga riders achieve what they thought was impossible.

I’ve made the embarrassing mistakes, and I get why you might find cycling intimidating – but you don’t have to worry about that here!

On my first ride with cleats, I toppled over in front of everyone because I forgot to unclip. Embarrassing at the time but it was moments like that which inspired Togo and me to create a safe, supportive space for riders to learn.

There are no stupid questions at Njinga – we’ll teach you basics like how to set up your bike, what the jargon means, and yes, how to unclip your cleats.

It’s great to see so many women riding with us.

With more women entering the sport, I lead women-only rides for our community in the UK on Tuesdays.

When I first started cycling, it was very much a men’s environment. That’s changed in recent years, but I find many women riders still feel nervous in the beginning.

I’m proud that we’ve created an empowering environment at Njinga where women cyclists can develop the knowledge and skills they need to feel confident on the road.

Seeing people achieve their impossible never gets old!

My favourite part of Njinga is the transformations people go through.

We’ve had severely overweight clients with health conditions able to come off their medication thanks to good nutrition and exercise. Our clients regularly amaze themselves with what they’re able to do! Seeing the joy that brings to people is the most rewarding thing.

Come ride with us – you’ll surprise yourself!

“Njinga Cycling is truly special. Leigh and Togo are both incredible – supportive, inspiring, and genuinely lovely people. Togo has a real gift for knowing how far to push you so you make real gains without ever feeling overwhelmed. Throughout the program, I saw huge improvements in both power and stamina, and just as importantly, I felt part of a community. Training with the group felt like being part of a little family.”
