RACE THE PLANE

How did 364 riders beat a Jumbo flying 3456 miles from London to JFK?

A UNIQUE ENDURANCE AND TEAM BUILDING EVENT THAT UNITED AND INSPIRED THE HEATHROW COMMUNITY

For three years running we have managed over 35 Team Heathrow companies bringing them together to race an aeroplane on stationary bikes and raise over £300,000 for charities, including Oxfam and Duke of Edinbugh Trust.  We conceived, planned and managed this unique 7 hour indoor cycling challenge alongside Heathrow Airport.

Each year we have coordinated 28 teams of 13 riders, including HSS Hire, Turner Townsend, Vandelande and many more. With custom built live tracking software we have raced a plane flying from London to The US on wattbikes.  A success in every sense: we overcame the considerable logistical challenges of running such an event in a working international airport; working across multiple business units; dealing with over 360 riders of all abilities and we can proudly say, the cyclists have beaten the plane each year!

TESTIMONIALS

Dyer and Butler want to express our enormous thanks to the Race the Plane Team for creating such an inspirational event which has taken place for the past 3 years. What a fantastic concept and one which has been truly inspiring to everyone involved. The physical and mental wellbeing of the staff at Dyer & Butler is one of our main corporate responsibilities. The Race the Plane event has impacted our team in such a positive way, it has been morale boosting and life changing to many individuals and has been a contributor to reducing D&B Heathrow staff sickness days to less than 0.5 days per year. Being involved with Race the Plane is an awesome event for charity and it means so much for all our staff (riders and supporters), it underlines the importance of our collaborative working relationship and ongoing commitment of working with Heathrow Airport.’

The Njinga Cycling team were fundamental to the success of the Race The Plane charity event. The team are very professional, friendly and so passionate. Togo, Leigh and Josh in particular went above and beyond to make the event a success. I’d highly recommend Njinga to anyone thinking of running a cycling event and I’m genuinely looking forward to working with them again next year.
