Taking on the Impossible
Before 2022, cycling wasn’t a big part of David’s life. In fact, when he first started training with Njinga, he had been riding for less than a year after picking up cycling as a hobby in his 60s. But that changed when David signed up for the iconic Land’s End to John O’Groats ride (LEJOG) – an epic 1,690km cycle over 15 consecutive days.
David suspected his informal training wouldn’t be enough. But he decided to test it by taking on a five-day, 612 km ride in Ireland. It confirmed what he already knew: the determination was there, but he lacked the structure, efficiency, and confidence to attempt a massive challenge like LEJOG.

The Transformation
In just four months, David’s performance skyrocketed. His climbing power improved by 29 watts, his 3-minute strength power by 50 watts, and his sprint power by an incredible 98 watts. He shed over 2kg to hit his ideal climbing weight of 80kg, improved heart rate recovery, and gained the confidence to ride long and hard without fear of fatigue.
When September came, David was ready. Alongside his small group, he cycled 1,690km from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 15 consecutive days. What had once seemed daunting became an experience he genuinely enjoyed.
